Our consulting suites are located on level 1 at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, overlooking the city. Our easy access to public transport and proximity to the city is one of the many benefits for our patients.
In addition, there are many lesser known but more important reasons for our patients to have their baby at St Vincent’s. Medically having col-located specialties means the best care is on-site and on-hand in close proximity if things don’t go to plan. This is of great benefit to the patient but also the doctor as they have the opportunity to provide the best possible care with an immediacy that some other private hospital cannot provide.
The Special Care Nursery is Victoria’s first private Level 5 facility with the ability to provide non-invasive respiratory support in the form of CPAP (Continuous Positive Pressure Ventilation), High Flow Ventilation or nasal prong oxygen.
Our 12-cot Special Care Nursery provides care for babies and premature babies born after 32 weeks’ gestation with moderate to selected high risk care needs.
Our team of specialists includes neonatologists and highly experienced nursing staff who can provide outstanding care and attention.
At St Vincent’s Private Hospital, they offer holistic midwifery support that provides continuity of care from pregnancy through to the postpartum period; Antenatal, Preadmission, Birth, Postnatal Ward Education, and Postnatal Parenting Education.
This program benefits families by providing support and giving them access to a service within the early newborn phase which can be highly stressful.
The sessions are designed to strengthen women’s mental health which will positively contribute to an infant’s development and reinforce family ties.
The postnatal Parenting education session is offered to parents between 4-6 weeks post birth and provides parenting tips, tools and techniques to help parents become more confident and knowledgeable when caring for their baby.
Some topics covered include:
- Transition from hospital to home
- Normalising newborn behaviour
- Normal sleep patterns and cycles for babies
- Tips and techniques for sleep settling
- Breastfeeding support
- Mental health awareness
Support people and babies are all welcome to this session.
