Breast Feeding and Lactation Consultation
Whether this is your first baby or your third, many women after the birth of their baby require breast feeding support. With years of experience in working and caring for our patients we understand how important feeding help and support is beyond the hospital.
That is why we have a highly experienced lactation consultant who visits our rooms weekly, offering personalised, one on one sessions, to our patients for all their feeding issues. This service is also available for further telephone support where distance may be a problem.

What can I do to alleviate blocked milk ducts?
We can also assist in recommending specialist physiotherapy groups to work in conjunction with Guy and your lactation consultant who utilise therapeutic ultrasound to unblock milk ducts.
Can I prevent getting Mastitis?
There is no absolute way of ensuring you do not get Mastitis however, there are several things to be aware of to help you reduce the chances of Mastitis. These are:
- Beware of oversupply of milk.
- Manage cracked nipples to reduce the opportunity for infection.
- There is evidence to show that Probiotics reduces the chance of Mastitis.
- Learn to manage blocked milk ducts
Mastitis is a more serious issue and will in many cases require antibiotics, effective drainage of the breast and therapeutic ultrasound in order to fix the problem.
